First community library at Sutherland Quarters

The little library at Sutherland Quarter, Crawley

We have put in place a new community library at our Sutherland Quarters building in Crawley, with the aim of increasing access to reading for the many families with children living there.

The initiative was started by our Community Engagement Officer Deborah Stainforth and has received lovely feedback already, with one particularly cute handwritten note simply saying ‘I love the little library’ in a child’s handwriting.

Deborah explains: “We have a large community of families with young children at Sutherland Quarters. Not all have access to early years education or preschool activities and we want to support them with a number of resources, educational learning and activities that mirror what other children receive who are at nursery for example. We have a full plan that we will be rolling out over the coming months with more detail to follow but the community library is just the first step. We are delighted that it has been so well received and since putting it in place last month, we have already doubled its size which is great news for the children and parents making excellent use of it.”
